Reading a Message of Hope
We’ve all experienced this feeling. You know you’re supposed to do the thing God wants you to do, you continue to put in your best effort, and you walk away feeling exhausted, maybe even defeated. As Christians, we know God has a good and perfect plan, and there are some seasons we will just have to press on through it.
There is hope! Thank you, God, for giving us the strength to continue to do what is right, even if it’s not always easy. In episode 193, we talk about this message of hope when we seek to doing the right thing and staying on God’s path, no matter how challenging it can be.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.”
Galatians 6:9-10
Galatians is full of so many good verses, but as you know, we picked our favorite five. We knew as soon as we read Galatians 6:9-10, it must be included in the mini series. It says right there in the Bible that we will reap a harvest of blessing. Amen! Hallelujah! We will be blessed if we are doing the right thing and we do not give up. Harvest is coming, friends, don’t give up.
Praying Through This Season
Time after time, God proves that His timing is the best. He knows all the moving parts, what’s going on with the back end, and there is no way we could understand it all. Yet, we know that it’ll always work out for good. What a great promise!
Does that mean doing what is right doesn’t get tiring? Parenting, strengthening marriages, calling out our stumbling Christian friend can all be tiring, but God wants us to press on and equip us through it all. He will walk alongside us and be present. In this part of the episode, we rephrase Galatians 6:9 and turn it into a prayer. If you’re weary, pray this:
“God help me not get tired of doing what is good. Help me have faith and know that at the perfect time I will reap a harvest of blessing. Please give me the strength, energy, and courage to keep doing what is right and not give up.”
A Prayer for When We’re Tired
This may be a daily prayer, hourly prayer, or pray by the minute depending on your situation. Ask God to help you find perspective, be patient, and remain faithful. We also give you a gut check when we talk about God’s timing, so be sure to scroll back up and press play on episode 193, “Doing the Right Thing.”
Talk About Getting/Giving Help
We are not meant to struggle alone, and we encourage you to stay in constant conversation with the Lord. It’s also wise to bring in trust, Christian friends to help carry you through this life phase or season. Grab your community and work through this. Talk about ideas, practies, and ways you can serve each other in your rough patches. We give several examples of what this can look like in the episode; here are a few:
- Take them to coffee
- Keep an eye on their kids so they can shower
- Pick up and deliver their groceries
- Pray over them call/text/talk
- Check in and listen well
If you’re burdened, Jesus promises He can carry that stuff and his yoke is light. Come to Him, talk with Him, and let your community rally around you. Be good at asking for help and gracious when you receive it.
Tell Your Kids About Their Souls
When we practice the skills above with our communities, it makes is easier to transition it to our children. Focus on God’s standards for your life, not the world’s. There will be many times in the lives of your children where doing the right thing is uncool, lame, you name it.
“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?”
Mark 8:36
Teach their children that their soul is more valuable than anything this world could ever provide. They will be tempted, tricked, and tried to get them off of God’s plan. As the parent, preach this verse from Mark, teach them to guard their hearts, and stay in constant communication with them and God. Remember Galatians 6:9, don’t give up!
We hope you enjoyed episode 193, “Doing the Right Thing”, with our read, pray, talk, tell insight. Now it’s up to you to work through the Bible chapter discussed, pray about this verse using the prompts given, have biblical community around this verse, and go point others to Christ with the tips we give. Remember, when you read, pray, talk, tell consistently, you’ll grow your faith in God more deeply. Tune in next week to hear another breakdown of a Bible verse!
