Foundation Based on Wisdom

It’s true for all of us. Sometimes we can get so caught up in the present that we forget to think about the person we want to become. This is where you, the leader, can step in and help others how to envision growth. Yes, we want company goals to get reached through team growth, but what about the characters of the people? They are more than a number, they are created in the image of God.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works”

Hebrews 10:24

If we want positive change to occur while making the environment more Jesus driven, spurring each other on is the way to do it. How do we start this process? Glad you asked. Set high, clear expectations that are linked to Biblical truths. If you’re working in a space that doesn’t allow the verse to be blatanly stated, you can tweak it. Here are a couple of examples:

  • Healthy conflict resolution: Matthew 18:15-20
  • Always work hard: 1 Corinthians 10:31
  • Don’t be a whiney person: Philippians 2:14
  • Keep moving forward: Philippians 3:14

Catch the drift? If you’re looking for good structure on how to be a good human, raise good humans, help others be better humans, etc… the Bible has the answers. Fill your home and your mind with this wisdom. Use God’s word daily to guide you with your leadership. Speak these words over your people.

Guided Growth and Realistic Future Tripping

Once you have the foundation build on solid rock (Hey, God.) Now we step up and encourage. As leaders, your job is to guide. If you’re a Christian leader, your job is to guide others based off of how Jesus leads. Here are a few ways to do that:

  • Speak life into them
  • Coach them up
  • Give them vision
  • Tell them their potential
  • Keep high expectations
  • Give structure and boundaries
  • Challenge them for growth

Yes, when you give expectations and the ground rules it can be clunky at first. But isn’t everything? When we were babies, we didn’t start out by running. We scooted, then crawled (some of us backwards), stood up, stumbled, and fell. A lot. Even as babies we learned how to fail forward, so push your team (or kids, or friends, or students) to keep trying and press on. Tune into our Grit Mini Series for clear steps to take here. Here are some other mini series to help you or your people (so send them these episodes!):

We describe specific examples of what realistic future tripping looks like on the episode, so be sure to scroll back up and learn how to help others envision growth. We talk about how to deliver the roadmap to people’s success, how their brains work, and ways you can encourage them.

Keep the Common Ground

In earlier episodes of this mini series, we talked about finding core values, developing common goals, and discovering common ground. You’ve worked hard to establish this relationship, so now what? You stay connected to the things that hold y’all together for the common goal. If you’re delivering news of some sort, coaching up a coworker, so trying to create a team bond, always start with the common ground and team goal.

When you’re working on how to help others envision growth, you must find a way to stay connected. We cover some easy conversation starters and tell you how to ease into the deeper discussion. Remember that it costs zero dollars to invest in others; the return is well worth it. Here are some quick PRO TIPS to work on common ground in your daily conversations:

  • Be sincere
  • Be empathetic
  • Consider the benefits the other person will receive
  • Match those benefits to the other person’s wants
  • Make it clear of the benefits they’ll get
