About the Book

Every child wants to be seen, known, and accepted for who they are. As parents, it’s our job to help our kids know they are valued and loved. Becoming an Intentional Family is a practical resource for creating a home where children feel that sense of security and belonging.

About the Author

Anastasia knows what it’s like to feel left out and not have a place to belong. One of eight children, Anastasia often got lost in the shuffle. She lived in ten different houses as a child and was the ‘new’ girl countless times.

As a freshman in college, Anastasia found a place to belong in Jesus. After college, Anastasia taught for six years with over four hundred students. She heard many stories from her students who were part of a family but didn’t feel like they belonged. These stories and Anastasia’s own stories of feeling left out led her to be passionate about helping children feel like they belong.

Book Details

There is a significant difference in having a place and belonging to a place. When kids feel like they’re a part of something, but lack the sense of belong, it can create a gap in their lives. Through this book, you’ll learn practical, actionable ways to create a space for your kids to belong. Anastasia discusses different areas where parents can step up their intentionality:

  • Parenting
  • Marriage
  • Family time
  • Home environment
  • Family outreach

Each of these categories are featured in Anastasia’s book, and they all interwine to create an overarching sense of belonging. We go over examples in episode 231, so be sure to scroll back up and tune in. You’ll find practical encouragement and tools for parents to help their kids all throughout the pages of “Becoming and Intentional Family.”

Anastasia gave us some signs to look out for in our children. If you notice your child is being more withdrawn, off, unexplained or intense emotions, or they can’t quite articulate how they’re feeling, don’t let that go. She strongly encourages us to dig deeper by doing the following:

  • Pray: Ask God for wisdom and guidance on how to approach conversations
  • Talk: Take intentional time to talk to your child
  • Wise Counsel: Bring in a counselor or trusted adult as needed

“Becoming an Intentional Family” is geared towards parents (married or not), but overtime Anastasia has noticed that grandparents are buying it too. Another fun mention about the book is that each chapter ends with scripture to dig a little deeper, journaling prompts, and a gentle challenge. This bonuses help readers apply what is learned.

A Word from the Author
