The Negative Impact of Avoiding Change

You may have heard it many different ways, but the main focus of this episode is “nothing changes if nothing changes.” That can be a hard pill to swallow, especially if you are lacking motivation to change, or have a fear of change. If you’re wanting to become more mentally strong, embracing change is the way to go. So, what’s holding you back? Dig deep and take time to think about that.

You may have an underlying fear in your head that you’ve engrained in your brain subconsciously. It’s common for those who dislike change to have a desire to avoid uncomfortable feelings like grief, fear, sadness, etc… This is an ugly truth that needs addressing if you are truly wanting to grow yourself. We love the Bible verses Philippians 4:6-8. It helps you know what to do and think about if your thoughts are getting in the way of making positive changes. Read the verse below and take a moment to reflect on what this can mean for you when it comes to the growth point of change.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Philippians 4:6-8

Think about the ways you want to grow. Friendly reminder that growth means changing for the better. Sometimes it takes trial and error on what works for you in this life phase. Make sure you’re not wasting mental energy on wishing you would change; just start making your moves. Here are more tips to get you started:

  • focus on one small change at a time
  • set yourself up with good cues
  • don’t let emotions dictate your actions
  • give yourself pep talks as needed
  • celebrate even the small wins
