Prepare for 1st Day Drop Off

Disclaimer: Always check with your district and stay up to date on any changes that have been made. Help your children have a positive experience by setting them up for success. Make this situation as positive as possible and lead from the front. We dive into the tips mentioned below, so be sure to check out episode 64:

  • Practice sentence stems: “Can you help me with ____?”, “My name is ____.”
  • Easy lunches to minimize contact: possibly no microwave access
  • Prepare child for screeners: questionnaire, temperature check

Again, we discuss tactics on how to practice these tips plus add a few more ideas you can use to help set your family up for success.

Practice Wearing Masks Now

Wearing a mask all day can be tough, especially if you’re a kid. The best thing you can do as a parent is model and encourage. It may not be easy, but together you can make this work. Here are some quick tips to help with getting your child used to wearing a face covering during the school day:

We dive in on how this can practically look in your life. Make sure you hear the full episode for all the details and actionable tips.

Sanitization Skills

Are you the rinse and run, or do you actually wash your hands for 20 seconds? Turns out, we’re not all perfect. Double check with your kiddo on how to properly wash hands. Other sanitization tips include:

  • Practice eyeballing 6 feet apart
  • Practice proper sneezing and coughing
  • Minimize contact, use creative greetings
  • Frequently clean phones and laptops

We know that you’re doing your best. If you’re reading this we know you care about your kids. Keep doing the best you can with what you have.

Prepare for When We Go Online

Sometimes we lovingly refer to schools as petri dishes. The abundance of people in one area can spread germs quicker than in less populated areas. We don’t know when it’ll happen, but in the event your school switches to online learning, be sure to have a plan.

Check out episode 63 to prepare for distance learning. We give you practical, actionable tips that will help you get set up for success in the event we go to all online learning.

Encourage Your Kids to Do the Right Thing

This is a great time to teach your kids about integrity and doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Some may choose to not wash hands properly or wear a mask properly. It’s our job as parent to guide our children to do the right thing, no matter what.

  • Empathize and encourage
  • Tie it to a bigger purpose: keeps us safe, we were asked to do it, etc…
  • Build endurance now for mask wearing

Stay Up to Date with Procedures

How many times have you had a plan not work out? Yeah, us too. Make sure you’re adopting a “trial, error, pivot” mentality. It’s important to model flexibility. You’re getting the opportunity to teach your children the life skill of trial, error, pivot. Keep pressing on and giving grace.

Episode 24 talks about how to raise kids with grit. Be sure to check it out here if you want some more tips and tactics in the parenting realm.
