What is Grit? Angela Duckworth has got it down to a science. Grit is the power of passion and perseverance. With those two traits combined, over time, one develops grit.

Duckworth gives multiple anecdotes that prove her research. Time and time again, she researches and provides very specific and scientific proof about how grit is developed and how it grows.

How Grit Helps Your Team

Are you in charge of a team or of tiny humans? Frequently checking in on your people is wise. You can discover how gritty someone is, and then help coach them up to become grittier over time. Duckworth covers this later in the book.

This goes hand in hand with hiring, electing, or retaining your staff. Be wise with how you are conducting interviews. Get past the resume and get to their core character traits. Frame your questions around grit scenarios to see how your recruit will do when faced with an obstacle.

How Grit Helps You

The grittier the better. If you’re looking to make a shift in your job/position, make sure you are consistently developing your grit. Be sure to get good feedback from trusted sources and seek to improve with every step.

You can automatically make yourself more hirable just by being gritty. In your interview, when you’re speaking with coworkers, and even in day to day life, you should be constantly conveying grittiness. This doesn’t mean show off! Grit is the unspoken tenacity you bring to the table every single day.

How Grit Works with Your Personality

You must know yourself to grow yourself. Refer back to our Enneagram mini series. It is vital that you know your habits, subconscious logic, and strengths/weaknesses. You must have your baseline so that you know where to go from there. Our 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth mini series goes in depth about strengths/weaknesses and how we can be intentional with improving. It will help you find your talents and passions too!

Grit is easy to develop when you are in a great place with your life. What is challenging is when you are in a valley and do not have a plan on how to get gritty. This mini series will help you have a plan, and find a way to implement it.
