Roman Road Mini Series

The path to becoming a Christian is simple, yet somehow we complicate it unnecessarily. Our Roman Road Mini Series helps you understand the decision you make when you decide to follow Jesus. We’ve created five episodes that walk you through scripture in the book of Romans that all point back to “road to salvation.”

The phrase “Roman Road” is just a catchy way of saying “a group of verses from the book of Romans that show you a simplified path to salvation” in the Christian faith. The Roman Road mini series is episodes 240-244 of the Witty & Gritty Podcast (complete with all the details below):

Episode 240: All Have Sinned

Episode 240 discusses Romans 3:23, and how we all fall short of God’s standards. As we READ: we can see that no matter what we do, we still aren’t worthy of eternity in Heaven. When we reflect through our lives, it’s safe to say that we can all admit that we mess up. There is GOOD NEWS coming! Tune in below to episode 240 of our Roman Road mini series.

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

Romans 3:23

PRAY: Once we come to the realization that we are sinners needing saving, we can begin knowing our next steps. We sin, but we have a God who has the power to save us from the eternal penalty. On this side of Heaven, spend time praying and reflecting on areas that you can ask for help and guidance from God. Maybe it’s a particular sin lifestyle, or maybe a bad habit that gets in the way of you growing closer to God. Ask God to make these areas clear as well as the next steps to growth.

TALK: Crossing the line of faith is personal, but it’s not private. As we grow in our faith, it’s important to find Christian community that can help us deepen our relationship with Christ, as well as spur us on in other spiritual disciplines. When in Biblical community, one way to grow is confessing your sin struggle with the group (healthy vulnerability, there may be counseling needed before this step). There is an element of humility that comes with confessing to your inner circle. Whether it’s confession on your end or on the end of another, remember that extending unconditional love, grace, and empathy is helpful (yes, set boundaries if needed). Remember back to our verse, we are all sinners, but there is good news coming!

TELL: It is vital to to teach our children where their identity comes from. If they have crossed the line of faith, their identity is in Christ. Period. There will come a time in their lives that they’ll need to remember the truth that “You are not your sin. Once you’ve been saved, your identity is in Christ.” Teach this, and own this truth as well. In this part of the episode, we address finding sin in conflict, and reitierating the truth of identity. Tune in to episode 240 to hear the specific strategies (this helps address the sickness, not the symptom).

Episode 241: The Cost of Sin

Episode 241 discusses Romans 6:23. As we READ, we can see that this verse reiterates Romans 3:23. Since there cannot be sin in Heaven, we are, by default, bound to eternity without God unless the price is paid. Thank you, God, for the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ! As Christians, we know that we’ll get to be with God forever because Jesus is the one who paid the price for our sins.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

PRAY: Spend some time thanking God for the free gift of eternal life with Him. God loves us so much that He gave us son to pay the price for our sins. Pray for ways to use this free gift of salvation to glorify God. Pray for bold confidence when you tell others about Jesus. Ask God to help you during conversations and for guidance.

TALK: Think of the people you spend time with the most. What’s the status of their walk of faith? What about your family, coworkers, or people you see on a generally regular basis? Pray over those conversations, that they’re seasoned with salt, and that the light of Jesus is shining through you. Begin having conversations geared toward your faith. We go over several non-cringy ways to put Jesus in the discussion, so be sure to scroll back up and check out the episode.

TELL: The ABCs of salvation (admit, believe, commit) is a simple way to know the road to salvation, and to teach it to others (your kids, on mission trips, young kids to their friends, etc…). Tune into the episode to hear how this works. We also discuss how to walk your kids through tough conversations around sin, when they sin, and if someone else’s sin affects them.

Episode 242: Christ Died for Us

Episode 242 discusses Romans 5:8. As we READ, we see that even though we sin against God, He still sent Jesus Christ to pay the price. Since Jesus died on the cross to save us from hell, we can accept this free gift, and spend eternity with Him. This is the ultimate act of love. No matter how much we mess up, God would make the same sacrifice again and again. How mind blowing is that?!

“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8

PRAY: God is the perfect representation of love. Let’s pray and ask God to help us love like He does. Pray for your heart posture. Ask God to show you the places where you struggle to love others (God, help me go first even though it may not be reciprocated). We give several other prayer prompts throughout the episode, so be sure to scroll back up and press play.

TALK: We have all been in a situation where there is someone who can be challenging to love. This ties back to praying and asking God to help you go first in acts of love. There will be times when there is a negative first impression or a less-than-desirable person in life, but it’s our job to be nice first. Get the groundwork done through prayer and obedience when He guides you.

TELL: We discuss how we teach and model love for others in any given circumstance. In this part of the episode, we talk about how we can confidently face adversity, show love, and call others out gently in a way that is kind and respectful. We discuss how to set healthy boundaries and healthy behavior. Tune into episodes 240-244 for the entire Roman Road Mini Series.

Episode 243: Openly Declare and Believe

Episode 243 discusses Romans 10:9. As we READ, we see that there is an element of salvation that says we need to openly declare our faith. Becoming a Christian is personal, but it’s not private. Yes, a heart change happens, and telling others about this decision can be intimidating. God will give you a holy confidence to speak His name.

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Romans 10:9

PRAY: Pray for bold faith that doesn’t shy away from telling others about Jesus. There is a huge difference between thinking something, and professing it publicly. We go over several examples across spiritual disciplines in the episode, and how this comes into play in the real world. Ask God to help you bear Godly fruit more and more each day, and that your heart posture is healthy. Remember, if you want to receive wise counsel you must first seek wise counsel.

TALK: What are ways you let God take the lead? How do you keep Him your first priority, and what will be your method of accountability? Spend some time with these questions, and discuss these with your home group. What are some takeaways you learned or want to implement? There will always be challenging seasons of life, so praying and preparing for it is helpful.

TELL: We want to challenge you to share your testimony with others. Before you cringe, wait! We give you some tips. Start with your kids, best friends, or other believers. This is a great way to help build your confidence, plus you may be surprised on what you learn along the way. Keep praying for holy boldness to tell others about Jesus.

Episode 244: There is No Condemnation

Episode 244 discusses Romans 8:1. As we READ, we can see that our sins are forgiven once and for all, and there is freedom in Jesus. There is no more death sentence for us who are believers in Christ Jesus. Thank you, God! Those who are in Christ Jesus no longer have to feel guilt and shame. **Burden lifted** thanks to God. This gift is available to you now!

“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”

Romans 8:1

PRAY: Thank you, God, for the permanent victory over sin and that we get to be a part of it! Our future does not end in death, but in eternal life. If God can forgive us of our sins, let’s take some time to ask God to give us the courage to forgive others. Pray your emotions catch up through trials, doubts, and dry seasons. Tune into the epsidoe to hear all of our examples.

TALK: If you are struggling with sin, feeling guilt or shame, or having a hard time forgiving others, we want to encourage you to talk with your Christian community. We share stories of how we’ve sought wise counsel, therapy, and all the tools that have helped us when we’ve faced these seasons. Follow up question: Do you notice any patterns or cycles when you feel this way? Tune in to hear examples of what this can look like in everyday life.

TELL: We are all born with a desire to belong. This verse reiterates that once you’ve crossed the line of faith, you are forever belonging to God and His big family. Our identity is in Christ, and our sin is not who we are. If you are ever speaking with someone and they feel left out, alone, or like they don’t fit in, you can reassure them of this Biblical truth.
