Now that you’ve heard the science behind how the brain works, and how the 21-Day Brain Detox plan works with your brain, we tell you ways to practically implement this five step plan.

Gather

This step is all about becoming aware of what you’re experiencing through your sensory level and then what is happening in your mind while you’re experiencing that. The external (what is happening around you to you) and internal (how your mind is processing through the external) work together.

“We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ”

2 Corinthians 10:5

Develop awareness in your thoughts and then you’ll be able to start catching them. Keep the good, destroy the bad. If you need wise counsel and community to help you with this, reach out to a trusted resource.

Focused Reflection

Think specifically on one thought. This 21-Day Brain Detox Plan tackles one thing at a time. If you’re wanting to work on fixing your negative self-talk, getting rid of mom guilt, & quit drinking cokes, just start it one of these tasks.

Think about your emotions you’re feeling when you spend time reflecting. Be sure to listen to episode 59 to hear more about how this looks in everyday life. Remember to tackle on thing at a time. Complete as many 21-Day cycles you need to before moving onto a different topic. Trust us, your brain will thank you for this.

Write

Writing is a whole-brain activity. Keep a thought journal or a way to track thoughts. It doesn’t have to be fancy or formal; just keep it simple. You’re trying to get the thoughts out of your head and onto paper. Pro tip: it’s totally okay to word vomit! Just write fearlessly. Get whatever is in your head out onto the paper.

You’ll be surprise how much is in your brain once you write it down. The power of writing consolidates and organizes thoughts, clarifies what is at the root of an issue., and just clears some mental real estate. Again, for more practical, actionable tips, head over to episode 59 (or just press play at the top of this page).

Revisit

Here’s where steps 3 and 4 play nicely together. Look back at your writing. Do you see any common themes? Through your writing, you may reveal different pockets or categories of life.

This is where you can literally see the thoughts in your head and take them captive. Filter them through a Christian lens using the Bible. Keep what aligns and toss the rest. Hear more about how to do this and what this looks like in episode 59.

Active Reach

Here is your big action step of this 21-Day Brain Detox Plan. This vital step is a make or break for changing your life (for the good or the bad, whichever you’re choosing).

Actively look for the truths to combat lies. Actively seek to improve. If you’re not quite sure how to replace the negative thought think, what would this type of person (the one you’re aiming to be) do? Example questions could look like: What would a healthy person choose to do? Would a great parent do this?

Think about your goals and where you want to be. Do not get caught in the comparison trap; be your best self. The step forward is to see the solution and identify the thought pattern. “What would a confident mom think?”

The 21-Day Brain Detox Plan designed, tested, and proven by Dr. Caroline Leaf only takes 7-10 minutes each day. You and the people you love are rooting for you to be the best version of yourself. God is rooting for you and wants to set you up for success. Here is the tool to do that!
