Why Rahab?

When you get an Autumn Miles book you get hard truths delivered through stories from the Bible and from her life. She does an amazing job of dovetailing her story and the story of Rahab into one message: We are all sinners in desperate need of a savior.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Romans 3:23

If we take it one step further, we can see ourselves in the story of Rahab. A lifestyle of sin keeps us from living our best lives, and for the most part, we’re aware of what exact sin it is that we’re choosing over growth in God. Eek! BUT, there is great news! Yes, we are all sinners, and we are so broken that we could never get ourselves out of the mess we’ve made, but God made a way through Jesus Christ.

We all have a messy track record of sin, just like Rahab, and just like Autumn. Want to know what Rahab did about it? Make sure you read the book of Joshua! She makes a daring decision that was influenced by her faith in God. This decision saved her and ultimately changed everything. If God can change Rahab’s eternity, He will do it for you to if you just ask!

Choose to Participate

Rahab made the faith based decision to hide the spies. Her faith saved her and her family from death. When we go about life, we also need to be making faith based decisions. These can (and should) be for major and minor decisions. Remember back to our Atomic Habits Mini Series, every decision you make is a vote for the type of person you are. Want to be more faith driven? Base all your decisions around what God wants you to do.

Choosing to say yes to the God nudges and following the Holy Spirit takes some guts. There will be times your decision doesn’t make sense to those who aren’t in the loop on the conversations you and God have been having (shout out, Noah), and that’s okay! Pray for strength, peace that surpasses all understanding, and the perseverance to press on when you know you’re doing exactly what God wants you to do.

When you say yes to God, you’re taking the opportunity to participate in the bigger story of what God is doing. God’s will is going to happen, but we do get the chance to join in on what great things will be happening. Say yes, be bold, and keep the faith while you press on.

Never Too Far Gone

Want to know the beauty of Rahab’s testimony? God saved her no matter how broken she was. She was wrapped up in a sin cycle, lost, and had a one way ticket to hell. The moment she decided to place her faith in God was the moment she would be redeemed forever. Rahab was not too far gone, and neither are you. A sinner’s redeeming story can be in you too.

God chose Rahab in her life of sin, and he used her anyway. God will not let your sin keep you wrecked forever. He’s a good God who loves you want wants you to have a sinner’s redeeming story too.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

Your sin is not more powerful than the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. These are promises you can stand on when you feel broken, life you’ve stumbled again, or if you are stuck. Sin has no hold on God, so say yes to His abundance.

We hope you enjoyed episode 172, “A Sinner’s Redeeming Story” and that you have practical, actionable steps you can take.
