What are Care & Support Groups?

Sherri LaBarbera, Director of Journey Groups at Community Life Church, comes on the show to talk about recovery programs. She gives insight on why certain programs work, while others don’t, plus she mentions why you need certain programs. Sherri says her messy story led her all the way to where she is now (counseling and leading groups programs). God redeemed her mess, and He can redeem yours too.

Did you know that there are multiple programs out there besides recovery from addiction? Our interviewee talks about healing through recovery programs that pertain to abuse, divorce, grief, abortion recovery, and more. There are options that cater to your specific needs. If you’re not sure where to start, take a look at this website to explore options. Learn how to heal from your past, and press onto what God is calling you to do.

On the Fence?

Maybe you’ve been debating getting support for a while now, or the thought has recently entered your mind. Either way, know that healing through recovery is for everyone, no matter the stage of life. Everyone has sin struggles, which is why we need to constantly keep Jesus top of mind. Did you know that there are care & support groups for these types of struggles too?

  • people pleaseing
  • stress
  • anxiety/drepression
  • perfectionism
  • codependency
  • anger management

If you can think it, there’s a group for it. Sherri talks about one program in particular that helps you dig deep and get to the root of the sin, not just addressing the manifestation of the sin (example: treating the heart issue vs the addiction). All it takes is just doing the next right thing. CLICK THIS LINK to see what your options are. Remember that no one is ever too far gone to experience healing through recovery.

Someone You Know?

Maybe you found this episode because you care about someone who needs help. It’s never easy to have tough conversations, so good thing we ask our interviewee how to navigate this conversation. Here are a couple of quick tips, but be sure to scroll back up and press play to hear the elaborated version:

  • Give them information on groups (here’s a link)
  • Do the research for them
  • Accompany them
  • Encourage them along the way

Ultimately, for healing through recovery programs to work, it has to be their own decision for them to go. They have to have their heart in it, and know that God is with them the whole way. Our God can change anything. Trust the process and trust God.

Tips Post Recovery

Know that the process is never done. It takes dying to yourself daily, and surrendering yourself to God. Walk with Him step by step, and let Him guide you. Here are other ways to help post recovery program:

  • Spend time with God every day
  • Maintain quality accountability
  • Ask others to pray for you
  • Keep priorities aligned properly
  • Exercise regularly
  • Christian community
  • Put your hope in Jesus
  • Capture your thoughts

Do not stay stuck. You may be in deep now, but you don’t have to stay in the pit. You have a way to climb out, so take it. God wants us to experience abundant life, not feeling like a slave to our sin. Jesus can change you, so show up and do that work.
