Lacking the confidence to start a dream is a normal feeling, but we have to remember that we can’t stay stuck! If we’ve been called to do something, it’s up to us to start, even if we don’t feel as ready as we’d like.

“If we wait until we’re ready, we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives.”

The 10 Year Test

In ten years from now, will you regret not doing this thing? Whether it’s working out, or starting a small business, will you look back ten years from now and wish you would have started?

News flash! You do not want your wisdom, ideas, inspiration to follow you to the graveyard. Check out this video for a little pump up

“The wealthiest place on the planet, is the graveyard. Because in the graveyard we will find inventions that we never ever were exposed to. Ideas, dreams, that never became reality. Hopes and aspirations that were never acted upon.”

Courage Over Confidence

If God has called you to it, just do it! Lean on His confidence. You don’t have to know the entire roadmap. You just need to know the next right step. Keep this in mind when you’re lacking confidence and courage:

  • look at what some others have tried
  • get the right people in your arena
  • failure is inevitable, so find a way to bounce back
  • effort overcomes lack of confidence
  • it’s not a coincidence if it’s in God’s plan

Self Fulfilling Prophecy is REAL! If you put those positive thoughts in your head, they’re more likely to become true. Lean on God’s confidence, because when you’re in His plan, you’re on the right path!

How to start before you’re ready

No one said it was easy, but it is so worth it. Trust us, once you get started, the momentum keeps you going. We may not have all the steps, but we can do our due diligence and start. Thinking on the following will help when getting ready to take the leap of faith and just start:

  • Think about the past times you’ve done this (taken the job, had a kid, driving a car for the first time, asking that girl out, etc…)
  • Combat imposter syndrome by changing the narrative
  • Lean on God’s confidence, stay obedient to the call
  • Keep showing up and trust the process
  • Action comes before courage

Three steps to help yourself get a jump start

First, there is a major difference between initial research and lallygagging. It’s easy to waste time creating a plan and then all of a sudden, it’s months later and there is still no start. Help yourself by having task oriented research plans. “By the end of this timed research session, I will be able to…”

Second, get skin the game. Get something on the line that will cost you if you don’t get yourself started. We all need accountability because we’re human. Get your village to help keep you on track. Have your daily disciplines set and ready to go!

Third, value growth and learning as opposed to staying in your comfort zone. We all know stagnant and stuck will keep us from ever reaching our dreams. So buckle up, and get comfortable being uncomfortable!
