Here is the 1st of our 3 interviews covering John Maxwell’s: The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. We interviewed Jeanne, Faren’s mom, & she tells us about life and raising 4 kids using these laws.

If you want some background knowledge on the text we’re pulling our questions and ideas from, check out episode 1, episode 2, episode 3, episode 4, & episode 5.

1. Intrinsic Motivation

External motivation can seem like it is more convenient or easier to control and manage when it comes to people who work under us or with our kids. The huge liability is: what happens when they are operating on their own?

It is vital to be able to instill intrinsic motivation in ourselves and those around us. Jeanne gives us great advice on how she accomplished this with herself and her kids. Try some of her strategies if you feel this is an area of improvement.

2. Setting Expectations

Again, if we are in charge of people, leading them properly and with clear expectations is key. It’s hard to know where you’re going if you’re not given the tools, guidance, or guidelines to be successful.

Setting yourself and others up for success helps build positive rapport, a culture of trust, and a better work environment. Assumption on anyone’s part brings about ambiguousness that can do more harm than good.

3. Stretching Yourself

Jeanne speaks into getting out of her comfort zone of several occasions. She has played some interesting roles throughout her life, and she is always able to stretch and develop herself in a myriad of areas.

Jeanne brings about laughter and a love of good margaritas. Her energetic personality leaves us smiling and ready for a spontaneous adventure!

Check out our next interview with Betsy, Brooke’s mom in episode 7 to hear how she applies The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.
