You have the power to control your mindset, thoughts, & actions. It just takes a bit of practice. Get your mind right, so the rest can follow.
Mindset Matters
Leaf’s research has proven that the mind matters. What we are thinking consciously and what our mind is doing in its nonconscious play pivotal roles in how we see and view the world in which we live.
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
2 Timothy 1:7
This verse tells us not to fear, but instead, have love and self-discipline. I don’t know about you, but the last time I checked, living in fear did not work well for me. Living a life full of love and using self-discipline has most certainly improved my life. Just think, if we can take control of our mindset, we can view the world in the lens we prefer.
Choice Matters
Just like our mindset, we can take control of our actions. Have you ever lashed out and said or done something you didn’t mean? Something you’ve later regretted doing? God has given us the power to be able to think through choices and consequences. We just need to harness this power and channel it for growth in Christ.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
Colossians 3:15
Learn to take back control of your actions. The Bible gives us tips on how to do this: let the peace of Christ rule our hearts and be thankful. We go into details on how this can look in your daily life, so be sure to listen to our episode to hear some tactics on how to live a life like this.
Take Every Thought Captive
You do not have to believe every thought that enters your mind. Satan throws stuff and sees what sticks. This means that we DON’T have to let the thoughts in our head be our reality (unless we choose this). Not sure what to think about instead of negative thoughts? Read this verse below to get some ideas.
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
Philippians 4:8
Did you know that just 5-16 minutes a day concentrating on your thought life and filtering out the negative will drastically change your life? Dr. Caroline Leaf gives example after example of how the brain changes when we take our thoughts captive. Hold those thoughts up to the Bible; do they align? Keep what does and leave the rest.
“We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:5
