Intentional Relationships

Question: In regards to the same exact product/service, would you rather buy from a trusted friend, or a random place? Friend, right? Someone you know, trust, and have relational equity in. Same type of question: Would you rather be friends with someone who is genuine or someone who puts up a shield every time you’re with them? Genuine, right?

In a world that tells you to build up walls, keep your ugly truths secret, and only show your highlight reel to people, be someone who is authentic with relationships and who you are. Fact: the devil wants us to struggle alone. Fact: God wants us in Christian community where we can build each other up in our struggles. See the battle we face daily?

If you’re wanting to grow deeper friendships, be a better business person, be a more present mom, being real will get you there. Don’t let fear or lies from satan hold you back. God hardwired us for deep connection, not only with Him, but with others too. PRO TIP: Healthy vulnerability has health boundaries. God encourages us to be brave and share the Gospel with others, so be the first to step up, engage, and point people to Christ.

World vs God

As Christians, we want to act not of this world, but of God. This makes no senes to a non-Christian brain, which is why explaining ourselves helps (so get those conversations going!). People should note a major difference about how you view the world, interact with the world, and how you radiate joy. Take a look at this passage from the book of Matthew:

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.“ You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[a] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Matthew 5:13-16

God made you uniquely you. Tap into those specific passions and giftings God has given you. No one can do something the way you can because you’re the only you. God didn’t duplicate you on purpose. If you’re trying to be like someone else you’re missing the opportunity to use your skills you’ve been given. In episode 170, “Jesus is Your Business with Lauren Burks”, we discuss strategies that you can use to find those specific passions and skill sets.

Identity in Christ

What you do is not who you are. You are not what you do. Those things are just a part of you. This is a whole mindset shift if you’ve been identifying as anything other than a child of God first and foremost. It is so easy to lose track of yourself, especially in those crazy seasons of life. So when you’re in the newborn phase, in your busy work season, or you’re in a deep valley, remember those things do not define you the way God sees you.

To further this mindset shift, think of what you do as a way to point others to Christ. You’re a mom? Cool, tell those babies about all the great things Jesus does. Are you the CEO of your company? Great, make sure your convictions are Biblically backed. Living that wife life? Wonderful. Remember how you pray and honor your husband is one of the greatest things you can do for him. Your platform is the way in which you are pointing them back to God.

In episode 170, “Jesus is Your Business with Lauren Burks”, Lauren goes over some great tips and strategies on how to live this out. Here are a couple of examples we dive into on the podcast:

  • Leave people better
  • Pray for you team
  • Wake up before your kids
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to prompt you
  • Speak life into others

We also take time to point out specific ways to instill this into your kids, so be sure to scroll back up and press play on the episode.
