Chapter 3 of Forleo’s book is so great because the premise is, if you can put your mind to it, you can solve any problem or chase any dream! A PRO TIP we have for you: it’s so important to hammer down our belief systems big and small.
Placebo Effect is FOR REAL!
We’ve heard the term “placebo effect” for quite sometime, and there’s a reason for that. The placebo effect WORKS! Time after time, science proves that if you can believe it, you can achieve it.
Being in education, we see first hand that we can convince students to learn something that is well out of their “belief range”. This happens daily, and at any age. This means it definitely applies to every human!
In the scope of Christianity, it is vital to make sure we are aligned with what God is calling us to do. If He has called us to a place, job, etc…we need to follow through. We need to keep our mindset in check the entire rollercoaster called “Life.”
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
Romans 8:28
Guard Your Thoughts
When it comes to self-improvement and being able to conquer anything, a healthy mindset is vital to success. We’ve got to hold ourselves accountable for the tug-of-war of doubt/belief that goes on between our ears.
“We are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:5
Every thought in our minds, we need to take hold of and analyze it. You can think about the following when checking your thought life:
- Is these thoughts leading me toward God?
- Are they hindering my relationship with God?
- Is this thought Godly (exudes love, joy, peace, patience…)?
- Is it following in obedience to what God has called me to do?
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Romans 12:2
Where Beliefs Come From
In the chapter, we dive into specifics about how you can get your mind right and stay firm in your beliefs. Here’s what we cover:
- environment: set it up for success
- experience: leverage every situation for good
- evidence: find solid truths in the Bible, seek wise counsel
- examples: find good mentors and modeling, adapt as needed
- envision: begin with the end in mind, visualize
