Meet the 21 Kicks Crew

Brooke & Faren are the creators and operators of Witty & Gritty, a Christian-based personal growth podcast and blog (you’re currently on the blog!). These best friends wanted to create beautiful journals that are fun to finish, so they teamed up with Emily of The Happy Ginger Co to make the dream come alive.

This trio of entrepreneurs has a passion for journaling, pretty things, and quirky fun. If you like to nerd out on holidays, enjoy witty banter, love creativity, and ready to have a good time, 21 kicks journals is where it’s at. Brooke, Faren, and Emily have combined their talents to create unique, 21 day journals that will inspire you and help you have a great time. Episode 111 gives you insight on the people behind the company. You don’t want to miss the shenanigans!

Get in a Journaling Habit

If you’ve been around the podcast for a while, you know that the power of journaling is an incredible game changer for anyone who chooses to stick with it. Even just one journaling session will help you gain clarity, be more grateful, and free up mental real estate. If you know journaling is so great for you, what’s stopping you from doing it more often? It’s time to get a journaling habit going!

It’s important to keep in mind what works for you. In episode 111, we talk about our favorite journals, and what we love about them. The great news is that there are no rules to journaling! You can use markers, tape, glue in photos, write whatever you want. You can choose to experience the freedom journaling provides, or if you prefer guided journals, there are plenty of those as well. We just want you to journal because we know it will be so beneficial for you.

We as humans are not always very mindful! We’re masters of avoidance of thoughts and feelings, or letting our thoughts run on autopilot, unchecked. Journaling is just one avenue to look a little more objectively at our own feelings, thoughts, and behaviors in order to move through life with more intentionality. This is a space to process, work through feelings that arise, practice gratitude, reflect, learn, connect with the Lord, and more fully with ourselves. As a byproduct of this practice, it tends to produce a cathartic release, lead to greater insight and self- awareness.

Set Yourself Up for Success

In episode 111, “Make Journaling a Habit”, we talk about our preferred journaling set up. This is a great exercise to do for yourself too! Here are some things to think about for optimal journaling:

  • Preferred time to day
  • Comfortable location
  • Minimal distractions
  • Favorite writing utensils
  • Optional drink or snack

Take a few minute to visualize what your personal set up looks like. You can even get as specific as temperature, clothing, scented candle, and lighting. Plan ahead and get your space ready, and then you’ll be able to fully relax and journal when your preferred time arrives. Keep your journaling space reasonable, practical, and something that is enjoyable for you.
