Peoria, Illinois native, Dr. Joe Paris, has a doctorate of ministry which is more of a practical, application based degree. He’s even written high school curriculum for Christian schools that proves that Jesus Christ is the son of God. Cool!

What is Apologetics?

Some hear the word “apologetics” and go running; some hear it and are intrigued. So, the questions is, “What is apologetics?” Apologetics is doing on of two things:

  • 1) It’s answering people’s questions or objections about the Christian faith
  • 2) It’s helping clarify thoughts about the Christian faith.

Joe does a great job of explain what it is, and how it works in episode 62. He also tells his story about how he was challenged in his faith, which lead him to the study of apologetics.

Before we dive into this, Joe explains that having questions about Christianity is NOT bad, even if you’re a Christian! Questions mean you want to learn more and want to grow. PRO TIP: Instead of heading over to Google to find the answers to your questions, try your local pastor you trust or wise counsel.

What the Bible Say About Mindset?

Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks within himself, so he is.” The way we think shapes our future. The way we teach our children to think and the life we speak into them will change their future. You thought life matters, and the words you say matter. Check out our post on ways to encourage your children just by speaking to them.

Growing your mindset with a biblical worldview takes time, effort, and consistent repetition. Here are ways you can help grow yourself and others in this area:

  • Memorize scripture
  • Meditate on God’s word
  • Prayer
  • Journaling

It’s important to remember that you may not see results right away (just like anything else: losing weight, learning a language, becoming stronger, etc…). Stay encouraged and on the right path. It will pay off and Joe gives great examples of what this can look like.

Our nonconscious is constantly being influenced by the things around us. Whatever input is available for our brains to consume, it will be done. Make sure that you are taking active steps towards building your faith, so you aren’t negatively impacted by the world around you.

What Can We Do to Help Our Mindset?

Dr. Paris gives pratical, actionable steps that we can take in order to help not only our mindset, but our faith as well:

  • Memorize scripture
  • Gain a biblical worldview
  • Daily practice
  • Address the condition, not the symptom
  • Dig deep to the underlying heart issue
  • Remember your “why”

Having wise counsel in your life will help you stay on the right path. Combine this with spiritual disciplines (reading the Bible, worship, taking notes at church, memorize scripture, etc…). Do the things you ought to do instead of thinking you ought to do them. This is the difference between having good ideas and doing good ideas. Put yourself into action.

Thanks for joining us for our Switch On Your Brain episode 62, Joe Paris, where we talk about how Christianity and science are connected. Stay tuned in next week to learn more and bring your friends!
