How the Episodes Flow
We’ll read the scripture from the specific episode (208-219 of the Witty & Gritty Podcast), have a guided prayer through that Bible story, and then one minute of prayer on your own. We’ll do the first 5 episodes of our Kid Classics series (episodes 209-213) in episode 219. Then, we’ll cover the second half of the episodes (episodes 214-218) in episode 220.
If you haven’t listened to our Kid Classics yet, tune into episodes 209-218, and come right back to this guided prayer through Bible stories blog post. Trust us, you’ll want the context and what the verse means for each of the guided prayers.
Remember, if you’re not sure what to pray in your independent prayer time, tell God that you’re not sure what to pray, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to specific areas of your life. If you’re new to praying, great! We all start somewhere, and you’re exactly where you need to be.
Pray this before tuning in: “God, please bless this time of prayer. Guide my heart through these prompts in a way that only you can. I ask that the Holy Spirit shine light on areas I need focus. I dedicate these next few minutes to you. Amen.”

Pray for Clarity: Adam, Eve, and the Fall (Ep 209)
“The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.”
Genesis 3:6
God, we know that the world will try to trick us. There is a real enemy at work. Please help us discern the truth from the lies. Help us to remember to look back at scripture, ask you for clarity, and help us seek wise counsel as we need. As we learn the truth of your word, please help it stay in our hearts, so that we may remember what you say versus what the world says. We know we have a direct line of communication. Help us remember to start with you when it comes to knowing truth from lies.
Spend this next minute asking God to clarify a certain area or situation

“So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.”
Genesis 6:22
God, we know there are times in our lives that we question you, get angry with your plans, and sometimes flat out refuse to do what you ask. Please give us the obedience of Noah in times where we don’t understand or see the full picture. Let us come to you for our next steps, and help us respond with faithful obedience when you guide us.Please give us the emotional and physical strength we need to fulfill our calling. Surround us with support from our Christian community.

Pray for Spiritual Perspective: Joseph and His Brothers (Ep 211)
“But don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me to this place. It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives.”
Genesis 45:5
God, sometimes life is just rudely unfair, and it hurts. Help us have the spiritual maturity and perspective Joseph has in his situation. Help us know that there is always a way to honor God, even when life doesn’t make sense and we feel like we’re on an island. We pray that even when it’s tough, we stay aligned with our faith and trust your plan. Help us see your hand moving in the story of our highs and lows in life. We ask that you give us wisdom and experience peace. We know that the scariest place to be is outside of your best plan for us. Help us stick to what you want us to do, and give us direction, perseverance, and grace through trials.
Spend the next minute asking God to give you peace and perspective as you gracefully endure hardships.
Praying for Calm Obedience: Moses and the Red Sea (Ep 212)
“But Moses told the people, ‘Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.’ Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving!’”
Exodus 14:13-15
God, we know that you have the power to do the unimaginable, and we thank you for using that power on our behalf. We pray that when we are stuck in a seemingly impossible situation or choice, we know that you are there. Help calm our nerves, release the fear we’re holding onto, and obey when you tell us to move. We know that you fight for us and want the best for us. We know you will make a way. When you speak to us, help us have listening ears and willingness to obey.
Spend the next minute asking God to keep you calm and focused when seemingly impossible situations arise

God, we know that we can trust you and what you promise. We may not know the timeline or all the moving parts, but we do know that when you say you will, you do. Help us discern what is a promise from you, and what we need to do on our part to honor you through the process of waiting. Help us remember your promises on the hard days. Let us hear your voice clearly, and follow through with our trust and doing what you say.
Spend the next minute asking God to embolden your faith in the promises He has given us or will give to us

Pray Over Your Choices: Ruth and Boaz (Ep 214)
“Yes, I know,” Boaz replied. “But I also know about everything you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband. I have heard how you left your father and mother and your own land to live here among complete strangers. May the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully for what you have done.”
Ruth 2:11-12
God, we know that as believers we are set apart and made holy. Help us act in a manner that honors you and points back to you. Please guide and protect us as we walk through life, because we know that every choice we make affects how people see you in us. Guard our words in conversations, and keep them full of good things. Give us the wisdom to discern whether or not we partake in certain things that can cause us or others to stumble. Give us a biblical worldview, faithful integrity, and the courage to act on being set apart.
Spend the next minute asking God to show you ways that you can act upon being set apart.

1 Samuel 17:37
God, we know that you are the reason we can do anything good. It is your victory, not ours. We pray that as we face our giants, we stand in bold faith that you will prevail, and be with us as we face obstacles. We know that there is growth in every battle, please remind us of this on the hard days. Help us to remember all the valleys you have gotten us through in the past, and let us use that to stand firm and confident in who you are.

Esther 4:14
God, we know there will be times in our lives that we will need to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, or those in need of an advocate. Give us wisdom in our approach to speaking up and taking action in a way that it honors you and represents you well. We pray for bold faith as we take steps that may be out of our comfort zone, or put us in a position that may have earthly consequences. Guide us to properly leverage our position to help others for your glory.
Spend the next minute asking God for bold faith and guidance as you help others.
Pray Routinely: Daniel and the Lions’ Den (Ep 217)
“But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.”
Daniel 6:10
God, through your grace we are able to have a direct line to you, and for that we are grateful. Help us develop a relationship with you through regularly praying. Remind and prompt us that you love to talk with your children. Please remove or shift any barriers we have that keep us from routinely spending time in prayer. We know that we are uniquely designed to have a personal relationship with you, and communicating through prayer is one of the best ways to grow closer to you.
Spend the next minute asking God to help you establish a prayer routine however that may look.
Pray for a Change in Heart: Jonah and the Big Fish (Ep 218)
“When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.”
Jonah 3:10
God, we know that our hearts can get ugly, bitter, and unwilling. We also know that you can heal and help us in our stubborn and hurting ways. Please show us what areas of our lives need reflection and repentance in order to honor you. Help us learn to love growing a deeper relationship with you, and following you as you point us to our next steps. Please change the desires of our hearts to reflect what you want for us.
Spend the next minute asking God to reveal areas in your life that you need a heart change.
