It’s always a magical time when people get the chance to “ask the author” to get a number of questions answered by the brilliant minds behind great books. It’s an answered prayer that we got to speak with Autumn Miles specifically about her book, “I Am Rahab.” In this interview, we take big themes from her book, and we get to see how she responds. So cool!

Skeletons in the Closet

NEWSFLASH, if you’re a human, it’s likely you’ve got a few past sins you may not be too proud of. Whether it’s a past sin struggle, or a one time event, please remember this biblical truth: You are NEVER too far gone to have God redeem you and your story. The skeletons in the closet don’t have to haunt you anymore.

Rahab didn’t allow her past or circumstance/lifestyle stop her from stepping out in faith. We’ve asked Autumn about what advice she has for believers who want to let go of past sins and press on forward. Her response ties back to whose we are and what team we’re on. The enemy wants us to blow our sin up so big that it becomes an idol. This means that it takes over your thought life, and that it’s weightier than the blood of Christ. BIBLICAL TRUTH: There is no sin too great that cannot be forgiven.

“Don’t be so prideful to think that Jesus’ blood doesn’t cover your sin too.”

Autumn Miles, Ep 187

Once you’ve crossed the line of faith, be humble enough to trust that when God forgave you, He did it. There are many verses in the Bible that talk about forgiveness. Read the following verse a couple times and pray it over yourself this week (and any other time you need it):

“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”

Isaiah 1:18

Unprepared and Leap Anyway

In episode 187, “Whose You Are with Autumn Miles”, we also hit topics like hesitating when God calls us to move, preparedness, and taking a leap of faith. After chatting with Autumn, we know that we can all be caught off guard, feel ill prepared, or discovering that we’re not equipped. The great news is that none of those things are required for us to say yes to stepping out in faith.

Knowing whose you are means that you can fully depend on God to get your back, equip you, and walk alongside you, no matter what He’s calling you to do. Rahab was specifically chosen, and God orchestrated all the vital things around her life that lead up to the spies coming to her house. All Rahab had to do was say yes to God’s plan. And you can too!

Is it possible that risks and sacrifices come along with saying yes? Yes! But, know wholeheartedly, that God will set you up for success. When we have a humble posture towards God’s plan, we admit that we can’t do it on our own, and we need to rely on God to show us our next steps.

“For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

2 Corinthians 12:10

Using Your Gifts with Integrity

Good news! God designed you full of giftings and talents. Your personality is not an accident, and using all of these combined for God’s glory is the goal! If you’re having trouble identifying these, you can ask those close to you. Think about what advice people seek from you, what are you naturally good at, and what lights you up. HINT: Ask God about this! He is happy to help point these out to you.

Remember that satan wants you to be the worst version of yourself. You get to choose to shut that down by using your God-given strengths. God has created us to use our giftings so that we can find fulfillment in using our talents to glorify His kingdom. Pretty cool, huh? Step into your natural giftings, and see how God can move.

Stuck with the struggle of keeping promises to yourself about following God’s calling on your life? You’re not alone in this feeling, and we can all feel that struggle in difficult seasons. Autumn’s advice is to focus on being a person of integrity. You don’t want to miss her explaining this in depth, so scroll back up and press play on episode 187, “Whose You Are with Autumn Miles.”

“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.”

Proverbs 11:3
