Josh is a stage manager and production manager who has worked with big names like TobyMac, Switchfoot, Matt Maher, & more. His experience and expertise sets him apart not only in his profession, but how he got to where he is today.

Trial, Error, Pivot

Josh is the definition of hard work. By putting in the grunt work for years, he was able to acquire skill sets that made him so marketable, that he was able to work for such huge names. His effort over the years blazed a trail for where he would end up today.

His secret? Anything someone didn’t want to do, he stepped up and did it. He developed a reputation of someone who is relentless, consistent, dependable, and could figure anything out. Be willing, stay hungry, soak up knowledge and wisdom like a sponge.

Find Good Mentors

We preach this all the time. Find. Great. Mentors. You’ve got to get yourself in the right room to where you can learn from best. Josh was able to learn insider tips and tricks because he got himself in the right circles. Let them teach the heck out of you, and then be ready to step up.

Here is how you can be proactive with finding good mentors and learning from them:

  • Ask the right people for coaching
  • Get as much hands on experience as possible
  • Learn from your mistakes
  • Look for ways to improve
  • Surround yourself with specialists

Have a Strong Inner Circle

Multiple times throughout the interview, Josh talks about having his village rally behind him. Whether you call it your peers in the arena, your community group, or the ones who are allowed to speak life and direction into you, you’ve got to have them.

The people in your arena (Daring Greatly Mini Series reference) must be ready to support you, guide you, and give you a kick in the butt when you need it. It’s a group you can be transparent with, who knows our heart, and is ready to build you up.
