Reading About Your Identity
Paul’s letter to the Ephesians can be split into two main sections. Chapters 1-3 focus on telling a snapshot of the gospel, where chapters 4-6 tell us how to apply that wisdom in our daily walk. Today, we’ll be reading from chapter two, so for homework, if you’re playing along, is reading chapters 1 and 2 of Ephesians. Take your time because there are so many nuggets of wisdom along the way. We definitely had a challenge picking our fav five from this book.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Ephesians 2:10
We are God’s workmanship, His masterpieces. No matter how you feel about yourself or what others are thinking of you, you are ultimately something that God has designed. He is intentional with designing your body, your personality, your giftings, and your passions. All of this combined along with your surrounding is all part of a larger masterpiece of God’s great plan.
Once you can understand the intricacies of how you are God’s masterpiece, you can then live it out through the fruit of the spirit and the good works you do on this side of Heaven. If you’re feeling stuck, check out our 30 Day Bible Reading Plan: Fruit of the Spirit to help you work through how you can see this in everyday life.
Praying for Plan & Purpose
Now is a great time to chat with God and ask Him to show you your skill sets, and the strengths you have to put those out in the world for God’s glory. Not feeling like a masterpiece lately? Pray about that too! Pray knowing that you are God’s masterpiece, He has a plan and a purpose specifically designed for your life.
Ask God to give you the lens in which He sees you, not how the world sees you and thinks you should be. Pray for confidence in that, and once you gain the confidence, pray for wisdom, strength, and boldness. He promises to equip you with these things (read Ephesians and see for yourself). Pray that you will be able to live out the good works he’s designed you for.
Talking Through Talents
Round up your inner circle, and take some time to talk about your talents, giftings, and passions. Take turns with each of you, speak life into one another, and come up with a few ways each of you can live out your role in God’s plan using all the parts of the masterpiece that you are.
We know that we don’t always feel out best, our negative thoughts win the day, and we can go through seasons of being discouraged. This is where your Biblical community can rally around each other and let your individual strengths lift each other up. You are God’s masterpiece; use what you’ve been given for good in this world.
- Follow the God nudges
- Notice the good in others (and tell them!)
- Call out for support as you need
- Rally around those who need help
