Witty & Gritty Podcast: Daring Greatly Mini Series, Chapter 5

CLICK TO LISTEN!

In episode 33, Brooke & Faren talk about cultivating change and closing the disengagement divide. Chapter 5 of Brene Brown’s “Daring Greatly” talks about how to close the space between where we are and where we want to be.

Below are a couple of truths that can leave us perplexed at times. We find ourselves stuck and in need of a change for either ourselves or those around us. Understanding these truthful statements can help us learn to close the gaps between our current status and where we want to be.

You don’t have to be perfect

Ah, perfectionism. If the Enneagram number 1 links to your personality type somehow, you may be more susceptible to recognizing this truth. Here’s a tough pill to swallow. You are NOT perfect, nor will you or I ever be! “Ouch” & “Whew” at the same time!

Once we recognize that we will never be perfect, we can stop trying to fight this endless battle. By all means, keep your high standards and always strive for excellence, but don’t shut down when a slip up occurs. Whether your New Year’s resolution went wacko one day or you didn’t hit the note you wanted during your choir performance, mistakes happen. Don’t quit on yourself.

Embrace your humanity & extend yourself grace when you make a mistake.

We can’t give what we don’t have

This may be something we’ve heard, but have you ever really dived deep into this? It turns out, who we are matters immeasurably more that what we want to be. I know we throw around cliches like “actions speak louder than words” and “who you are is what you do”. Have you ever sat down and thought, in detail, what actions you have that are carrying high quality value?

At Witty & Gritty, we dive deep into the Enneagram. So, if you feel like you lost yourself or don’t quite like how your actions are lining up with your values, be sure to check out this mini series. It helps you understand your motivations and can help you get to the core of your behaviors.

More is caught than taught. Someone is always watching, so model accordingly.
