Every year, Jon Gordon hosts the Power of Positive Summit. He brings in inspirational public figures to speak life into the viewers and to give genuine advice on how to thrive in life.
Dabo Swinney gave a powerful pep talk about how he went from Alabama walk on to coaching the 2018 NCAA Division 1 Football National Champions at Clemson. His three minute speech was jam packed with knowledge; one favorite, “God gives you vision, but you take the action.” This powerful statement propelled him into the bulk of his advice, the three B’s.
1.Be Prepared
Walking onto an athletic force such as Alabama is a feat in itself, but thriving in that environment and later prospering is even more arduous. Dabo spoke about focusing on controlling what you can control and doing that with consistency. It was vital to him to be as prepared as possible in the chance he was called upon to enter the playing field.
2.Be Ready
Two words. MENTAL. REPS. Visualization is one of the most overlooked, necessary elements to staying positive. If you have a hope of being able to accomplish anything, visualizing is vital. If Swinney wasn’t on the field, his mind was completing a mental rep in his specific position every single time the ball was in play. This created a compounding effect on his preparedness and something that he teaches his athletes.
3.Be Committed
Something that cannot be faked; buy in. You must commit yourself to your cause. Dabo speaks about how important it is as a leader to fully commit and to get the right people on board with you. If you play for Dabo, you will be committed to something bigger than yourself, and you will a better person for it.
Swinney’s talk could pump anyone up. He’s down to earth and realizes that he’s playing for someone bigger. His athletic career can be summed up in these three points and all of this focusing back to his purpose to further God’s kingdom. Way to go, Dabo!
